Why triathlon? Long distance running injuries meant that while cross training I was in fact accidently training for triathlon. Still trying out what cross training looks like when you are injured from triathlon...!?
Upcoming goals To not set any racing goals so that my damaged body can rest and recover. That said, my "non-race" goals are:
- Sleep. Especially til late on a Sunday. What a gift!
- Watch DVDs without falling asleep.
- Go out for coffee without my bike.
- No longer get drunk off one drink.
Stengths Determination (stubbornness?), perfectionism (also a weakness), getting the IV after every ironman I have done (great recovery)! Managing to make a grimace look like a smile during a race. Oh yeah and the run...always happiest when my 2 feet are on the ground.
Proudest moment in sport 4 x Australian Age Athletics Champion (junior) 1500 metres, 3000 metres, once whilst carrying a stress fracture another time after being tripped at the beginning of the race. Ah the things you can do when you're young!
Personal bests 1st female and 4.26 Shepparton Half Ironman '07 in 40 degree heat, bushfires and after not training for 3 weeks due to illness.
Fin-ali breaking the 10 hour barrier (9.45 at Ironman WA 2008).
What is the key to successful training? Listen to your body first, even when the doctor says it's okay to race. The process is actually all about your training partners...choose those who make you laugh but who won't ask you the time up the hills or talk to you in the last hour of the 7.5 hour ride (sorry all Steve E is taken!).
What motivates you the most? The Runner's High...it works everytime you're wondering whether to get out of bed at 4.36am.
Your words of wisdom - Activate your t-zone.
- Every so often sleep through the alarm...it's good for you.
- My last dinner before an ironman is always pizza and a glass of vino (yes you read correctly - it does wonders for those nerves and brings on the zzzz's!).
