| Why triathlon? |
Hitting 40 and being overweight by about 25 kilos leading to a bit of a mid-life crisis. A happy combination of getting back into the pool as a result - I used to swim and run competitively in my late teens/early 20s - and a work colleague encouraging me to enter the London Sprint Distance led to my first race. Suffice to say, I got the bug. Moving to Australia, shortly after, helped. |
| Upcoming goals |
World 70.3 qualification at Geelong and qulaifying for the next world Olympic distance in Budapest. My recent LD worlds in the Green and Gold has led me to wanting more. |
| Stengths |
Not the bike. Taking guidance from those others who I respect. |
| Proudest moment in sport |
Two recent moments - I thought that finishing Australian Ironman in under 11 hours would take some beating but my recent 13th at the Worlds is pretty high up there. In an earlier life - being part of the winning national cross country team in the UK (cross country being an apt description over there) - although I was definitely 4th man in the team with the other three all going on to represent GB at Commonwealths/Olympics. |

| What is the key to successful training? |
Following whatever Bruce tells me!!! I am only half-joking, the differences to my perfromances between where I am now and say three years ago, when I was self-coaching, are simply huge. That, and rest days and recovery weeks - otherwise it would be full on, all the time. |
| What motivates you the most? |
A competitive streak and the overall quality to my life through general health and fitness. |
| Your words of wisdom |
What a hard question to answer!!! Trite perhaps - but never, ever underestimate or take for granted the support from loved ones (Liz P - who makes all of the difference). |
